Ava + Daniel | An Autumn Elopement Brantview Events

October 6, 2020

“You are the poem I never knew how to write and this life is the story I have always wanted to tell.”

-Tyler Knott Gregson

The reality of COVID and the impact of social distancing really set in during this past summer, which is considered in the wedding industry as prime season.

Even though restrictions surrounding the pandemic has put a damper on wedding plans this past year, it sure has created some of the most picturesque and intimate weddings I have ever shot as a photographer. Instead of large spectacles, they are intimate gatherings of the heart. They are simple and pure – no bells or whistles, just the ever pleasant, warm, radiating, giddy feeling of LOVE.

For Ava & Daniel’s autumn elopement I wanted to really harness on the intimate beauty that natural light brings. They were supposed to get married this year but, because of covid. It changed their plans.

It’s you and me; to love big, to live wild with open hearts.

Slowly going over these photos while sipping my tea, I cannot help to reflect over the obstacles that Ava & Daniel (and so many couples!) have had to overcome. From forcibly changing their plans multiple times, to making difficult decisions on who should attend, they have needless to say been sent down a twisted road.

But looking at these photographs of their most cherished day, I feel the love and warmth radiating from them. They have shown me that no matter what happens – love truly does conquer all. Your chosen partner, a meaningful setting, and that oh so wonderful natural light are all you need to take this big step into married life.

Gah! I am so in love with Lea-ann Belter’s bridal gowns. Their breezy, flowy Eden skirt, and sheer Laurel lace top, allows so much authentic movement and for the light to shine through; creating a delightfully windswept, breathless, and timeless look all at once. Dianna’s gorgeous styling from Amavi Planning  palette are vivid (love that pop of red!), and the décor are truly divine; you could almost feel the crispness of the autumn air.

My creativity always peaks where there is natural light. Knowing how to harness the light so that it affects your photograph is key to a photographers style. I love to use light and framing in an intimate way – but I also want it to reflect who I am as an artist.

In terms of framing, my intention was to harness the coziness and realness of Ava and Daniel and the vibrational pull of their day. I always aim to photograph what is unfolding in-front of me as real, transparent, and honest as possible – no posing, just all natural moments. I know that I accomplished that with my photographs telling a story of all the elements that came into play from the cozy vibe of the day. From the beautiful palette that Dianna had brought to life,  to the natural elements that fall brings us – like those burnt caramel sun rays, to the crisp autumn wind. You wouldn’t know it, but oh my goodness, poor Dianna had to tape everything down, candle sticks were flying and moving everywhere!

On any given day, the weather can be unpredictable. So, instead opposing the wind I embraced it – and between us I love the wind! It creates movement and energy and makes everything flow. So we just went on and flowed with it – and I know it made all the difference in the way I was able to capture the abundance of love between Ava & Daniel.
